All Wheel Drive is the drive on the road and 4-wheel drive for off-road. The main difference is that in 4-wheel drive, and the wheels lock when you take a ride to draw on a dry surface for a long time and move to the wheels. An All Wheel Drive transmission chain, the power of a wheel allowed to use, more efficient, as a rule through a viscous coupling to the other wheel. A total of 4x4 and AWD is losing slippery surfaces for hard surfaces.

I think the difference is four wheels 2 wheels to 4-wheel manually. I had a Subaru Forester that the double traction. The four wheels are active all the time when) one or two wheels (as in the sleet, snow or ice. Then put the force behind the wheels turning. I've never driven a car so well on all surfaces. My husband said it was the safest vehicle tracking, which had resulted. I walked through the snow was up to half! at the door. I sold more Hylander and still miss how it's done in the winter. I loved this car! Consumer Reports will tell you what you want, such as the Honda Pilot 4-wheel and did what can kind of miles you expect. Your library has copies of this book and magazine publishing. Honda has a good record. Good Luck

Kinda true 4WD differance is in full-time AWD. Part-time 4WD as engauged only 1 wheel on each axle has the power, whether the LF and RF and RR and LR are always enguaged, and bears in the use to highway speeds, it is only designed for off-road use .
